Summer time, music, and Cardiff City hit differently. This summer, Cardiff witnessed one of the biggest musical summers ever. Some of the biggest names in the music industry were in Cardiff this summer, including Pitbull, Teddy Swims, LeAnn Rimes, Katy Perry, The Cure, David Byrne, and many more.
The summer musical fest was a breaking point for Cardiff, where a large number of music fans visited Cardiff to watch their favourite stars. This event made Cardiff one of the most prestigious musical venues in the United Kingdom. After 30 years, Metallica returned to Wales, where the summer madness ended.
Right now, no data has been reported for 2026, but in previous calendar years, a boost in tourism was already seen following the music festivals. In 2025, Cardiff attracted 18.69 million people, which was an increase of 4.4% compared to 2024. A number of 800,000 more tourists boosted revenue by 6.7% to £1.86 billion. The growth in Cardiff’s visitor economy was supported by council activities, including the work of Visit Cardiff in promoting the city as a destination and supporting the biggest concert venues in Cardiff’s Music City. Additionally, it runs in-house events such as Cardiff food and drink festivals.
Cabinet Minister of Culture and Tourism Cllr Jennifer Burke said:
“Over the past few months, we have seen Cardiff Castle and Blackweir Field once again welcome tens of thousands of music fans. We already know Blackweir alone resulted in an additional 700,000 visitors and eating. With this year’s latest numbers, it is expected to reach 19 million visitors. This will help to create 12,100 full-time jobs.”
Taken together, those figures focusing on music and other events suggest that Cardiff is strengthening its tourism appeal as a destination for music and sports. On the other side, it will boost the margins of the tourism economy in Wales.
This summer programme was built on the success of previous ones. In 2027, Cardiff is set to host the Tour de France Grand Départ, while Andrea Bocelli is set to be staged at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with more and more concerts taking place at Blackweir Field.
Cardiff City is establishing its reputation as a global musical hub and tourism spot. Additionally, the Community Shield final contributed as a plus point to shine in sports venues. The target is clear: to build the city as the number one destination when it comes to music, sports, and culture.
