After previously taking place in Llandaff and Whitchurch, this year the City Hospice’s Sparkle Walk moves to Cardiff Bay with a new route taking in the sites and offering time to remember a loved one.

The Sparkle Walk first took place in 2019 and has continued yearly since 2021 after taking a year off for Covid.

This year’s nighttime memory walk will take place on the 18th of September from 6-11pm at a perfect time to take in the beautiful views of Cardiff Bay.

The walk will help to raise money for the City Hospice which provides home-based palliative care and counselling to patients with terminal illnesses and their families.

This is one of the City Hospice’s many events that aim to fundraise for the Hospice and allow people to celebrate the lives of loved ones, along with the Forever Flowers event and Scheduled event days like the End of Summer Golf Day later in September.

This year’s new route around Cardiff Bay starts and ends at Tiger Bay where a medal and drink will be waiting for all participants when they have completed the walk.

Walkers will go around Roath Dock, the Barrage and the International Sports Village during their walk with time for reflection to think about who they are walking for and the support they are providing for the Hospice.

The new route has also allowed this year’s event to give walkers the option of doing a 5km, instead of the usual 10km walk.

This change should hopefully bring even more walkers to the event and help to raise even more money for charity.

While there is an £11-£16 entry fee for the event, fundraising is what will really help the Hospice so every donation counts.

Whether you plan on going to Cardiff Bay to complete the walk and raise money for the Hospice or plan to give money to someone fundraising this is an event and great cause everyone can contribute to.
