Wales flooded into sorrow with the death of Owain Davies. The Welshman died in an air crash in the Swiss Alps at the age of 55. The Managing Director of the firm Amcanu in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, was killed on September 15, 2026.
It was a cruise aircraft, a Cirrus SR22T single-engine light craft, which crashed on the north slope of a mountain in Valais, Switzerland, just before 16:00 PM. He was travelling with two of his closest friends, who also died, including another Briton.
The reason for the crash has not been found yet. The plane took off from Lugano, stopped in Sion, and was headed towards Buochs when it crashed. The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board is investigating the incident now.
Owain Davies received a tribute from his company, Amcanu, where they said,
“Where others might see something daunting or difficult, Owain’s instinct was to work out what could be done and then get on with it.”
They strongly described him as having a determined, strong-willed personality that was spirited and reflective. He was a husband, father of two, and grandfather of two, above all else.
His family also paid tribute to him. His son said,
“Dad was a real character … he was my mentor throughout my life.”
