Summer at the Senedd will return again this year with the Senedd hosting event open to the public from the 18th of July to 31st of August.
This year’s event will see a range of activities from creative sessions and art exhibitions to tours around the Parliament building.
From creative craft to weaving, t-shirt printing, summer shows and an art exhibition by Jack Sullivan, the Senedd is well prepared for a fun family day out or an educational trip to Cardiff Bay.
This event is taking place during the summer recess for the MSs, the longest Parliament recess of the year that will continue until Sunday 13th September.
This recess means that the Senedd will not formally sit and MSs will not currently be attending Cardiff Bay for official political debates, allowing the Senedd doors to open to locals and tourists for the many summer events.
In the Parliament recess, tours of the Senedd will also be taking place, which will allow you to have a look around, possibly meet some MSs and learn how the Senedd works.
This chance to explore the Senedd comes after the May election and the appointment of Rhun ap lorwerth as the new first minister.
The opportunity should be seriously considered by many people across Wales as before the May election a survey carried out by Cardiff University and YouGov found that a “huge proportion” of the Welsh public did not understand how the new voting system would work and were unable to name the leaders of Plaid Cymru or the Green Party.
The tours and many of the events at the Senedd this summer range from free to low cost, making them very accessible and providing the public with a great opportunity to learn about the Welsh Parliament and Welsh politics.
