A familiar face returning to Cardiff with a different challenge. Will it be the right decision to return for a second loan spell? What will be his potential role, full-back or on the wing?
Calum Scanlon is set to return to Cardiff City, following his second loan spell from Liverpool to the Bluebirds. The Bluebirds are set to start their return to the Championship on August 18 against Wrexham.
Calum featured for the Blues eight times without scoring once. But what made him a key player to retain is his versatility. The Liverpool star can feature in multiple positions according to the game plan. He can contribute defensively as a full-back and on the wing as well. Calum was previously part of Millwall in the Championship, where he scored once and, unfortunately, against the Bluebirds.
Expressing his thoughts on his return to the Welsh capital, Calum stated:
“It’s brilliant to be back. It’s great to see all the lads again, speak with the manager and be back in the city. It’s an amazing feeling.
“I’m ready to go. It’s been a positive pre-season, getting minutes. It was good for me. My body is ready for the season.
“I’m grateful for the experience I’ve already had here, and I can’t wait to make new memories at the Club.”
The club is also delighted with Calum’s return to Cardiff, which strengthens the squad before the start of the EFL Championship. The presence of Calum’s versatility will be helpful for the Welsh side in their survival in second-tier football. Brian Barry-Murphy can use the Europa League experience to tackle challenges against former Premier League giants like Wolves, West Ham, Burnley and Southampton. Meanwhile, the danger from the Championship beasts is also on their side.
The Welsh capital’s fans are pretty excited to watch Cardiff return to the second tier of football. Somewhere, the return of Calum has also hyped fans for quality football. But what interests us is the role Calum will be assigned, whether he will be part of the defensive line or he will be the attacking face of the Blues.
