How did Cardiff’s horse tram routes develop before electrification?

Cardiff’s horse tram routes expanded from the original 1872 city-centre-to-docks service into several corridors serving Roath, Canton, Cathays and southern Cardiff. The network established transport patterns that later electric tramways retained and expanded.

The first horse tram route connected Bute Docks Pier Head and High Street.
